every year. This 4 hour workshop discusses the principles and concepts
behind an effective investigation process for downgrading incidents eg.
accidents/injuries. Topics covered in the agenda include: The initial
response, gathering evidence, analyzing the data and determining action
items.

Behaviour Based Safety
This
1 day course teaches participants the concept of pro-active safety and
how to measure safety performance using the observation process to reinforce
"safe" behaviours and identify and correct "at risk"
behaviours before they turn into an accident or injury. This program can
be applied to both a field and office work environment The participants
will learn: What BBS is and what it can do, how to use work behaviour
definitions to measure safety, how to fill out a BBS observation sheet
and how to give the worker(s) effective feedback after the observation.
Also covered is the use of the BBS data (generated by observations) to
show where improvement is needed and the areas where safety performance
is already good.

Basic Safety Orientation
This
one hour safety orientation is relevant to any contractor working in Lambton
County. It covers "general" safety and health rules and regulations governing
work done in both the industrial and construction sectors.

Confined Space Entry
This
½ day workshop will discuss the principles of confined spaces, their associated
hazards, the regulations governing the work, the preparations required
before entry is allowed, and emergency procedures in the event of an incident.
Also discussed are the responsibilities of the outside attendant or stand-by
person.

Defensive Driving (Ontario Safety League Course)
This
provincially recognized course covers the concepts and principles behind
defensive driving and educates the participants about driving hazards
and the critical steps that can be taken to prevent or avoid collisions
in spite of the conditions or the actions of people around you. Participants
receive a Canada Safety Council Defensive Driver's Handbook and a laminated
course certification card.

Fall Protection Certification
The
Ontario Occupational Health & Safety Act has outlined new responsibilities
for employers, supervisors, and workers under the changes that became
effective as of June 2000. This ½ day course teaches the participants
about:
- New regulation 145/00
- Active vs. passive fall protection
- Different types of fall protection equipment
- Proper inspection of the equipment
- Proper donning of the equipment
- A rescue plan in the event of a fall
All participants are tested and receive a laminated fall protection certification
card.

Forklift Safety Training
This 1 day course combines both a theory and practice component that includes training on six key modules including the propane cylinder change procedure that requires a record of training by the TSSA (Technical Safety Standards Authority):
- Introduction to forklifts and incident statistics
- Counterbalance principles
- Forklift inspection
- Safe forklift operation principles
- Propane safety
- Electric forklift safety
All participants receive a laminated certification card after the practical
test.

Gas Testing Certification
This
½ day course can be used to qualify workers as "competent persons" under
the OHS Act for testing and evaluating confined spaces before entry. Topics
covered are:
- Standards behind gas testing
- Gas testing principles
- Review of written record (safe work permit)
- Review of injuries and fatalities involving gas testing
- Review of and hands-on operation of test equipment (company specific)
- Questionnaire
Participants receive a laminated certification card on course completion.

Material Handling Safety
This
½ day material handling training course provides an in depth look at the
subject of manual handling of material and equipment. Set up in a workshop
format, it involves the participants in practical exercises identifying
manual hazards in the workplace (including the ergonomic factors), evaluating
those same hazards, and recommending ways of eliminating or reducing the
risks involved.

Safety, Health and The Law
This
½ day course covers the responsibilities of employers, supervisors and
workers under the Occupational Health and Safety Act of Ontario. This
workshop gives the participants an opportunity to access the regulations
to find the legal requirements for different types of work eg. ladders,
scaffolds, working at heights etc. in both the industrial or construction
sectors.

2 hour course identifies the duties and responsibilities required under
the Occupational Health and Safety Act to meet the criteria for a "competent
safety watch person". Covered in the program are safety watch duties for:

Supervisor Safety Training
This
4 hour workshop teaches the participants to understand their roles and
responsibilities as a "competent person" under the Occupational Health
& Safety Act. Workplace situations are discussed and participants are
involved in searching out specific sections and regulations in the OHS
Act that are relevant to the work that they supervise in the field.

Transportation of Dangerous Goods (including Clear Language)
This
½ day workshop covers the legal requirements under the TDG Act
and include modules covering the requirements of the new "Clear Language"
legislation that comes into effect on August 15th, 2002 and how the regulations
are going to affect:
- Responsibilities of Shippers, Carriers and Receivers
- Classification
- Safety Marks
- Documentation
- Dangerous Goods Occurrences
Participants receive a TDG Pocket field guide and laminated certification
card.

Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS)
This
3 hour course covers the four main components of the WHMIS program:
- Responsibilities of Suppliers, Employers and Workers
- Supplier and Workplace label requirements
- Material Safety Data Sheet requirements
- Occupational health and control of hazards
Participants receive a WHMIS booklet and laminated certification card.
